Running...it's (not) in my blood

I am not sure how it happened but it did, I find myself running. (okay lets be honest, its not really running, its walking fast alternating with running slow.) Weird, me running.  I don't know why I do it, I don't really enjoy it, or maybe I do, who knows....

It all started last summer, hubby and D1 decided to do a 5K, I watched them, they did good.
Then I decided I wanted to loose some weight so I started walking.  It took me 20 minutes to walk my subdivision one time. (.9 miles.)  I have never been a runner but I enjoyed my morning walks (time to myself) and decided to step it up a little.  It wasn't long before I could do two laps in about 25 minutes.

In August, Only Son joined the Cross Country Team at school.  He loves  to run and he is fast too.

September came and I did my first 5K.  I walked  almost all of it.  I did it in around 42 minutes.
Just before my surgery this year I did another 5K in about 43 minutes.

Hubby decided to join the Ragnar team (stupid, crazy!) and started running every morning and running long runs on Saturday.

February, as soon as I could, I started walking again.  I had May 1 circled on my calendar.   Hubby and Bishop were going to do a half marathon, (13 miles) I decided  not only was I going to do the 5K but I was going to do it in my best time ever. In order to do that I had to pick up the pace, I had to add running, real running, to the program.

In March, Only Son joined the track team and although lots of meets got canceled due to the weather, he did really well.  His best time was the mile in 7.19 minutes (or something like that.)  He took 6th at district.

May 1 came, it was wet, windy, rainy, snowy and even a little hail. We drove to Provo anyway.

we met up with our  friends

and we ran our races.

Hubby did amazing.  His first half marathon in 1hour 58 minutes (and some seconds.)

(I am the second runner in this photo- not the first)

.
My goal was to beat my own best time. I was hoping for 40 minutes.
I ran some and walked most but I did it in 36 minutes and a few seconds.

Did I mention it was cold and very wet?  But we did it!

Today was another 5k---well sort of. It was a fundraiser run and the kids directing the run had us turn way to early so we ended up only doing about 2 miles.

Only son and Hubby ran it in about 17 minutes

Once again, I ran some and walked more and finished in 22 minutes.

I am not sure I enjoy running but others in my family do so maybe its in my blood. Maybe its not;  Come August I am RUNNING  a 5k - the whole thing. (wish me luck.)

I think you are so wonderful. When I see you out running in the mornings it's so inspiring. I am proud of you and thank you for showing how to set real attainable goals and stick to them.
